Jason Cumpston, MEd

Math Interventionist

Jason Cumpston was born in Kentucky and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Music from Lyon College. After graduating, he served with AmeriCorps through City Year, tutoring and mentoring students in mathematics and providing behavior support for learners from third through ninth grade, an experience that deeply inspired his passion for education. He began his teaching career in Texas, where he spent over six years working with students in 1st grade, middle school math, Algebra I, and as a math interventionist. Jason also earned a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Arlington. He is dedicated to helping students build confidence in math through small-group instruction, strong relationships, and data-driven planning, using the Concrete–Representational–Abstract (CRA) model to make math meaningful and accessible for all students.

In my free time, I enjoy riding my bike, hiking new trails, and spending time with my partner and our pug, Joe. Music has always been a big part of my life and even inspired me to pursue a degree in the field. I’ve been singing since the 5th grade and also play the French horn. My favorite musical composition of all time is The Lord of the Rings, it still gives me chills. I also have a strange but genuine love for hippos, and when it’s time to unwind, I love playing Xbox with friends.
